The story could have been shortened and fit into the first and third book but Stephen King is all about making money。 It was boring

Luke Sittenauer

Quite a bit boring。 It seems like a side quest compared to part 1。

This is the King I expected, moreso than the first book。 This King dives into the heads of weird, messed up, semi heroic (sometimes) characters and just peers at them for a while。 It’s not as poetic as the first book, but it’s riveting and action packed nonetheless。 There’s also the fascinating theme of addiction。 People needing their fix, whether that be Eddie’s drug addiction, Roland’s quest, or The Pusher’s violence, and wrestling/succumbing to that is fascinating, especially with King being This is the King I expected, moreso than the first book。 This King dives into the heads of weird, messed up, semi heroic (sometimes) characters and just peers at them for a while。 It’s not as poetic as the first book, but it’s riveting and action packed nonetheless。 There’s also the fascinating theme of addiction。 People needing their fix, whether that be Eddie’s drug addiction, Roland’s quest, or The Pusher’s violence, and wrestling/succumbing to that is fascinating, especially with King being on drugs himself (I believe at the time of writing this book)。 It gives Roland’s speech at the end more oomph, and it makes me question: at what point does passion become addiction, does perseverance turn into jonesing? Are we to side with Roland? Undoubtedly somewhat, but there’s a part of this book that made me wonder if I’m not watching a tragedy。 (Maybe cuz I’ve been reading a bunch of Shakespeare lately)。 But of course, King isn’t Shakespeare, and literature is too complicated to simply be tragedy or comedy (Shakespeare included)。 That said, I’ll be checking out the next book in the series soon。 。。。more

This made more sense, but I wish it didn't。Way less viby than the previous book。I haven't read a King book before, but if this is the common experience then I'm good。 Everything is so drawn out。 It's like he's trying to fill in as much detail as possible, but the details are things that don't need detailing。I listened to this book, and hearing a white man put on the voice of a caricatured black woman, was too much to bear at times。 Honestly, Detta made me very uncomfortable。 King calls out Detta This made more sense, but I wish it didn't。Way less viby than the previous book。I haven't read a King book before, but if this is the common experience then I'm good。 Everything is so drawn out。 It's like he's trying to fill in as much detail as possible, but the details are things that don't need detailing。I listened to this book, and hearing a white man put on the voice of a caricatured black woman, was too much to bear at times。 Honestly, Detta made me very uncomfortable。 King calls out Detta as being a cliche in the text, but the explanation stopped there。 It was just cringy。 。。。more

I'll confess I had to push through book 1 to get to this one, and I'm so glad because I found The Drawing of the Three to be one hell of a page-turner。 I loved meeting two new characters and seeing Roland interact with them and new environments that had previously been foreign to him。 Plus I enjoyed that we get such a wide spectrum of experience thanks to the "whens" of each person, including Roland。 Also, while I've been very fortunate never to be addicted to a substance, this storyline dives d I'll confess I had to push through book 1 to get to this one, and I'm so glad because I found The Drawing of the Three to be one hell of a page-turner。 I loved meeting two new characters and seeing Roland interact with them and new environments that had previously been foreign to him。 Plus I enjoyed that we get such a wide spectrum of experience thanks to the "whens" of each person, including Roland。 Also, while I've been very fortunate never to be addicted to a substance, this storyline dives deeply into that experience。 I'd be curious to hear what others think。 。。。more

Again。。。 I read this for my brother。。。 and because the story is weird in interesting。 More enjoyable the The Gunslinger and less weird。 I enjoyed the introductions of Eddie and Detta / Odetta。 This 'jumping between universes' concept is an interesting addition and the tangled back story of each of the side characters is enjoyable。 I could do without all of the 'bombs de la F' that are classic in any King book。。。 but, the guy is an amazing story teller! 6 more books to go! This one really emphasizes Kings talents as he establishes fantastic characters the likes have never been seen in fantasy before。

One is hard pressed to find a better display of an actor's versatility than in Frank Muller's reading of this book。 Equally powerful and convincing as the voice of the Gunslinger as he is as the voice of Odetta, bringing an eerie terror to the sounds made by mutant lobsters, "The Drawing of the Three" shows Muller at the peak of his powers。He is missed。 One is hard pressed to find a better display of an actor's versatility than in Frank Muller's reading of this book。 Equally powerful and convincing as the voice of the Gunslinger as he is as the voice of Odetta, bringing an eerie terror to the sounds made by mutant lobsters, "The Drawing of the Three" shows Muller at the peak of his powers。He is missed。 。。。more

I have heard King has written one of the best fantasy epics in the Dark Tower series so I decided to continue on。 This book was ridiculously vulgar。 I have it two stars because I enjoyed the ending, if the the third book is as licentious as this one, I’m calling it quits。

This book was amazing。 I enjoyed The Gunslinger so was really looking forward to the continuation of Rolands story。 I was NOT disappointed。 It felt, to me at least that this one has a different writing style then the first。 Which benefited to the story。 Drawing of the Three also went in a direction i was not expecting。 I had always heard of The Dark Tower series but for the life of me never actually knew what it was about so i went into this blind and loved every minuted of it。 Though some of th This book was amazing。 I enjoyed The Gunslinger so was really looking forward to the continuation of Rolands story。 I was NOT disappointed。 It felt, to me at least that this one has a different writing style then the first。 Which benefited to the story。 Drawing of the Three also went in a direction i was not expecting。 I had always heard of The Dark Tower series but for the life of me never actually knew what it was about so i went into this blind and loved every minuted of it。 Though some of the books can be a little slow。 Once this one starts it does not let up。 。。。more

Good plot in theory, but the execution didn't cut it for me because I hated the two secondary characters。 I tried my best to enjoy this book but I'll be honest here, I was skimming by about halfway and truly felt that I was only reading to get the book over with sooner。 This is what I was afraid would happen, that after my thrill of reading The Gunslinger its sequel wouldn't hold up。 Alas。。。 The reason The Drawing of the Three remains 2 stars instead of 1 is this: despite my indifference wit Good plot in theory, but the execution didn't cut it for me because I hated the two secondary characters。 I tried my best to enjoy this book but I'll be honest here, I was skimming by about halfway and truly felt that I was only reading to get the book over with sooner。 This is what I was afraid would happen, that after my thrill of reading The Gunslinger its sequel wouldn't hold up。 Alas。。。 The reason The Drawing of the Three remains 2 stars instead of 1 is this: despite my indifference with this installment, I still wish to give this series a chance。 I will read the next book holding onto hope that it sticks more to Roland's storyline than anything。 I want to see his quest for the Dark Tower and whatever it may hold to the end。 But that final showdown is a long way away。 I hope that the further additions to the series deliver。 。。。more
